NATIONS THAT HAVE SIGNED
THE TREATY TO BAN LAND MINES

 

The following 124 countries signed the Convention on the Prohibition of the Use, Stockpiling, Production, and Transfer of Anti-Personnel Mines, and on Their Destruction in Ottawa, Canada, December 3-5, 1997. As of April 1998, eight countries have ratified the treaty (Canada, Holy See, Ireland, Mauritius, San Marino, Switzerland, Turkmenistan, and Zimbabwe). Hungary ant Bosnia and Herzegovina have passed the requisite legislation required for ratification but have not yet deposited their instrument with the United Nations. The treaty will enter into force after 40 countries ratify.
